Very good points Alex. All science from China on the subject of pandemic origins - including raw data -isn't only censored, output is tightly controlled (under threat of imprisonment) and we might even expect some of it to be fabricated. It should be treated as propaganda, not objective science. At very least extra due diligence should be done, a filter of skepticism applied, but it might be better ignored entirely. Sadly this isn't happening, our media still breathlessly parrots "Chinese scientists say they have found new evidence..." regularly.

I wrote about a specific case recently - Professor Edward Holmes, who seems to have become the main conduit for Chinese research on this subject:

I’m surprised that one could write a piece about censorship of science and focus only on China, when there has also been so much censorship of science at the behest of powerful and corrupt interests in the US and elsewhere in the non-China world. Duh

In addition to asking whether we can trust virology from China, we can ask the same question of research (and comments) from Australia, which is where I have lived most of my life. FOI's seem not to work here.

A focus on the origins of Covid would be somewhat tunnel-visioned were it to look only at China

A Gell-Mann amnesia in Science! I wonder, after all the heavily censored and promoted covid publications in even journals like NEJM and the astounding retraction rates, why anyone should trust the process at all.

Science is big business now, with business tactics employed by even postdocs.

You could be describing western nations, including the US, in their controlled censorship of information and consequences to those not following official narrative, not just China.

A better question: Can we trust "science' from from anywhere? Without a moral framework, we cannot trust science from ANYWHERE!

Thank you for your post. As regards trusting Chinese science we can hardly trust those in the western world so really it is rather academic. As the virology/germ theory is fundamentally flawed there is a big problem in any event.

In respect of Wuhan the whole thing was a psy-op and the western media have been playing along with it ever since.

Potential typo - "the rest of us are not obligated" supposed to be "now" obligated, yes?

Excellent article, thank you.
