I started following you in the Fall of '22. This update story was fascinating, filling in blank spaces on an historical canvas. I'm especially struck by the tone of appreciation for the work of others that permeates this post. It obviously comes from a love of science. How wonderful! I also loved the image of the Ikea table in the woods.
Two things that confused me, as an editor that reads closely: linking your work to the DIA work using active verbs--"my paper in 2022 builds on the DIA analysis" and "we followed these DIA analysts’ 2020 observations.." Since you neither built on nor followed these people, different wording would have been preferable.
Kudos to you for your 2022 research, for your essays about it, and for this essay. Kudos to the DIA analysts and to U.S. Right to Know for FOIAing information about the DIA study. But no kudos to Anthony Fauci for nipping in the bud the idea that the virus could have been created synthetically in the WIV.
I appreciate the DIA's optimism that BSL3 would be minimally sufficient. Rather ironic in retrospect and implies the IC needs to update their probability distribution over "experts will act responsibly".
We should assume the DIA nailed this in November or December of 2019. If so, why did we react as we did? If the President was made aware in December of a manufactured virus why did this play out the way it did? Or did we fear our culpability and remain quiet?
Billy, great to see you on here! Thank you so much for posting your articles. I'm going to dive into what you've done on Substack and contemplate ways to elevate your best work.
For anyone reading this comment, Billy Bostickson is one of the most important open source investigators on COVID origins in the world.
Thanks for saying that, and much appreciate your writing over the years, but i stayed off substack until now, to limit information overload, with occasional forays onto medium. the report is a monster, take your time!
Congratulations! You “kindergarten molecular biologists” are very impressive. This has been an amazing story to follow.
Well done! Now let’s find who decided to create the monster.
You were onto this, Al, stuck to the science despite significant obstacles. The power of truth is the one authority that guides you. So proud of you!

Thank you for your kind words, and appreciate your recommendations as an editor!
An analysis I thought might be wrong when first published, but has been shockingly well-vindicated.
